Interview Coordination Policy

Interview Coordination Policy

Some publishers offer paid interviews as part of their submission packages. To ensure a fair and professional experience for both publishers and submitters, the following standards apply to all interview-based opportunities.

Publisher Responsibilities

Publishers offering interviews must take the lead in coordination and communication.

Publishers are required to:

  • Clearly disclose the interview opportunity
The submission listing must clearly explain:
    • That an interview is included
    • The interview format (written, audio, video, etc.)
    • Where the interview will appear, when applicable (e.g., website, print issue, digital edition, social channels, or a combination of formats)
  • Initiate outreach after acceptance
After accepting a submission that includes an interview, the publisher must contact the submitter through the platform’s messaging system to outline:
    • Expected timelines
    • Interview format
    • Intended placement (web, print, both, or other applicable formats)
    • Next steps for coordination
  • Document scheduling or coordination efforts
There must be visible proof of interview coordination within the submission dashboard messaging, such as:
    • Proposed dates or deadlines
    • Interview questions
    • Confirmation of format and placement
  • Use platform messaging for interview communication
We strongly recommend that interview questions and coordination details are shared through the platform’s messaging system to ensure transparency and accountability.

Publishers may not place the responsibility on the submitter to independently follow up to determine how, when, or where the interview will occur.

Submitter Responsibilities

Submitters are expected to engage in good faith and cooperate with reasonable interview requests.

Submitters are required to:

  • Respond in a timely manner
Submitters must reply to interview-related messages within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Make reasonable availability efforts
Submitters should make themselves as available as possible and communicate any scheduling constraints clearly.
  • Participate as agreed
Once interview details—including format, timing, and placement—are confirmed, submitters are expected to follow through accordingly.

Failure to Coordinate

If an interview is not completed due to lack of outreach or coordination from the publisher, and there is no documented attempt to schedule or define the interview (including placement) in the submission dashboard, the interview component may be considered unfulfilled.

If an interview is not completed due to non-responsiveness or repeated unavailability from the submitter, the publisher will not be held responsible.

Platform Oversight

The platform may review message history within the submission dashboard to determine whether both parties acted in good faith and followed this policy.
